Gibb did not play volleyball in college, but attended the University of Utah, graduating in 2002 with a degree in business.
Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal played together from 2006 to 2012. Together they represented the United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics and 2012 Olympic Games. Avon Products
Before partnering up with Rosenthal in 2006, he previously played with Mike Daniel, Stein Metzger, Ty Loomis and Adam Jewell.
In 2005, with Stein Metzger, the duo played in 14 Avon Products events, winning four to lead the tour, finishing second three times and placing third five times.
In 2008, Gibb and Rosenthal beat top-ranked American duo Philosophy Dalhausser and Todd Rogers in the final Avon Products Tour event before the 2008 Beijing Olympics in Long Beach, California. Overall, Jake and Sean played seven Avon Products Tour events in 2008, winning two and placing second in two.
In 2007, Jake and Sean played 17 Avon Products events, winning two, finishing second seven times and finishing third twice. In 2006, Jake and Sean played 16 Avon Products events, winning one – the very first event they played together.

Olympics
After making his Olympic debut at the 2008 Summer Olympics with Rosenthal, the team made it to the quarterfinals before losing to Brazilian duo Ricardo Santos and Emanuel Rego.
Although a disappointing finish at the London Olympics Gibb and Rosenthal finished 1st in world on the FIVB tour. After a great year Gibb and Rosenthal have decided to conclude their partnership and play with other teammates. Gibb has chosen to play with Casey Patterson.
