Career
Born in Banff, shire, on the Moray Firth Coast, McKay began his professional career with his local professional football club, Deveronvale Football Club of the Scottish Highland Football League. McKay transferred to Scottish Football League Club, Dundee Football Club where he featured in a dozen league matches before moving to in 1969. Known afterwards as "Cup-tie McKay", he left Pittodrie just three matches later after a row over bonuses for the Cup Final.
After brief spells in England with Crystal Palace and Barrow, McKay moved abroad to play in South Africa, Hong Kong and Australia, eventually settling in Western Australia.
McKay died on 20 April 2008 from a heart attack while on holiday in Thailand.
