He completed a traditional Cornish Mason Apprenticeship.
He grew up in West Cornwall. He studied in South London and then returned to West Cornwall to be a development manager for Mustard Seed, a voluntary organisation in Helston, Cornwall and Chapel Street Methodist Church, Penzance. He later started his own small construction business.
He has developed community projects which enable vulnerable adults to have better lives.
Thomas served as Penwith District Councillor. He contested Street Ives at the 2010 general election, coming 1719 votes behind the Liberal Democrat incumbent Andrew George, whom he subsequently defeated in 2015.
