His father was Sigismund Freiherr von Zedlitz and Neukirch 1838-1903 see German Wikipedia. The fifth professor to be appointed to Victoria University of Wellington, he was also the official government translator. After the outbreak of the First World War, the university rebuffed the government"s request to dismiss him, leading to the passing of the Alien Enemy Teachers Acting 1915 which removed him from his post.
In 1936 he was made professor emeritus, and elected to the Senate of the University of New Zealand.
