Francisco "Paco" Javier Vidarte Fernández was a Spanish philosopher, writer and LGBT-activist.
Education
After studying philosophy at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Universal Product Code) in Madrid/Spain, as well as psychoanalysis (Master, Universidad Complutense Madrid) and pedagogy(Certificado de Aptitud Pedagógica (Civil Air Patrol), Universal Product Code/Madrid), Vidarte became a Doctor of Philosophy at Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia ( Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia) in Madrid with his dissertation about Jacques Derrida.
Career
Vidarte was the first to discuss "Teoría Queer" (Queer Theory) at Spanish university and published an impressive, internationally renowned number of articles and books about J. Dérrida as well as about LGTB-theory. He was a professor at Universidad Nacional de Educación a Distancia-university until his death in Madrid in 2008, caused by a malign form of lymphatic cancer and Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
Membership
From the mid-90s onwards, Paco Vidarte, who was gay, was an active member of the gay movement in Spain, and especially Madrid. He was a member of the group "Radical Gai", and later became one of the leading theoretics and philosophers of the Spanish LGBT-groups.
