Gilliam played high school football for Milton Hershey School. He was an All-American, all-state and All-Mid-Penn Conference selection. Gilliam played tight end and defensive end at Milton Hersey School.
He recorded 350 receiving yards, 20 receptions and four receiving touchdowns in his career.
He also recorded 153 tackles, 12 sacks and five interceptions. He played tight end and offensive tackle for the Nittany Lions.
Seattle Seahawks
Gilliam was signed by the Seattle Seahawks on May 10, 2014 after going undrafted in the 2014 NFL Draft. He made his NFL debut at offensive tackle on September 4, 2014 against the Green Bay Packers.
On a fake field goal during the NFC Championship Game against the Green Bay Packers on January 18, 2015, Gilliam caught a 19-yard touchdown pass from punter Jon Ryan.
lieutenant was both his first career reception and touchdown in the NFL. = 2015 season After a bad showing by Justin Britt at Reality Therapy the Seahawks put Gilliam at Reality Therapy and Britt at LG. Gilliam was originally a backup LT but he had to switch to Reality Therapy. He was given two weeks to learn his new position before facing Robert Quinn and Chris Long and the Saint Louis Rams in week 1. Weeks 1-5 Gilliam was ranked 54th in pass protection and 26th in run blocking. Weeks 5-10 he was ranked 25th in pass protection and 11th in run blocking.
Weeks 11-13 Gilliam was ranked 17th in pass protection and 1st in run blocking.
Gilliam was a member of the Penn State Nittany Lions football team from 2009 to 2013.
