Before being selected by the Cleveland Indians with the 13th overall pick in the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft, Mills attended Golden West High School (Visalia, California), Lewis-Clark State College, and Fresno State.
He was drafted prior to going to college by the Boston Red Sox in the 44th round of the 2004 MLB Draft. After the 2012 season, Mills had officially retired in favor of raising bulls full-time. Mills spent the 2008 season with the Kinston Indians.
He was named the Carolina League Most Valuable Player after batting.293/.373/.506 with 21 home runs and 90 Reserve Bank of India. Mills spent the 2009 season with the Akron Aeros of the Associate of Arts Eastern League.
He batted.267/.308/.417 with 14 home runs and 33 doubles while driving in 83 runs. Mills again spent a full season with the aeronautics
He was among the league leaders in Reserve Bank of India and doubles. While his overall production (241/312/377) dropped for the second straight season, he posted a career low strikeout total.
Mills started the season on the Doctor of Laws, then got off to a slow start with Associate of Arts Akron.
However, he batted over.300 in June and July. After being named Eastern League player of the week, he earned a promotion to the American Automobile Association Columbus Clippers. On June 3, 2010 Mills was involved in a fight and later charged with assault.
He was assigned to the Reds" Associate of Arts organization in Pensacola.
He was released at the end of the season.
