Brett R. Oberholtzer is an American professional baseball pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball.
Education
Oberholtzer attended William Penn High School in New Castle, Delaware, where he pitched for the school"s baseball team He was named to the All-Delaware team in 2006. He then enrolled at Seminole Community College, a junior college, where he continued his baseball career.
Career
He made his MLB debut in 2013 with the Houston Astros. Minor Leagues The Atlanta Braves drafted him in the eighth round in the 2008 MLB Draft. On July 27, 2011, Oberholtzer was named the Class Associate of Arts Southern League"s pitcher of the week while pitching for the Mississippi Braves.
The Braves traded Oberholtzer to the Houston Astros four days later, with Juan Abreu, Paul Clemens, and Jordan Schafer for Michael Bourn.
Houston Astros Oberholtzer made his Major League debut on April 21, 2013. During his tenure with the Astros in 2013, he appeared in 13 games (10 starts) going 4-5 with a 2.76 European Research Area plus 2 complete games with 1 shutout.
In 2014, Oberholtzer made 24 starts going 5-13 with a 4.39 European Research Area. On March 31, 2015, Oberholtzer was placed on the 15-day disabled list due to a blister on his left index finger. He was activated from the 15-day Doctor of Laws on June 1.
On June 27, 2015, Oberholtzer went 1.1 innings against the New York Yankees giving up 6 runs on 4 hits.
When facing Alex Rodriguez, Oberholtzer threw a pitch inside, and was ejected immediately. After the game, Oberholtzer was optioned to Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies. Philadelphia Phillies On December 12, 2015, the Astros traded Oberholtzer, Mark Appel, Vincent Velasquez, Thomas Eshelman, and Harold Arauz to the Philadelphia Phillies for Ken Giles and Jonathan Arauz.
