Born in Los Angeles, California, Snyder received a Bachelor of Arts from Pomona College in 1969 and a Juris Doctor from Stanford Law School in 1972. She was in private practice in California from 1972 to 1997. On January 7, 1997, Snyder was nominated by President Bill Clinton to a seat on the United States District Court for the Central District of California vacated by Edward Rafeedie.
She was confirmed by the United States Senate on November 7, 1997, and received her commission on November 10, 1997.
