Early career
Avelar began his career in Brazil. Avelar played for Paranavaí, Joinville, Paraná Clube and Rio Claro. Karpaty Lviv
In May 10, 2010 he joined Karpaty Lviv in Ukrainian Premier League on loan until December 2010.
Avelar impressed enough and signed for the club permanently in 2010.

On 17 July 2012 he transferred to Cagliari with the formula of the loan with the right of redemption.
He made his debut in Serie A on 26 August 2012 in the game lost from Cagliari to 2- 0 against Genoa. In the latter part of the season he was dropped in favour of the young full-back Nicola Murru, due to small physical problems and the exponential growth of the latter.
At the end of the season his contract was redeemed outright by the Sardinian club at a cost of 1 million euro.
In the season 2013-2014 will play the starting spot again with Murru, finding scant attention in the first half of the season. On 31 January 2014 the transition team on loan to Championship of Leeds fades due to logistic problems between the two companies involved. Left to Cagliari, in the second half of the season he collected 15 appearances, finding the starting spot in the match Inter - Cagliari valid for the 25th day of the championship.
In the season finale his dual with Murru was repeated.
On 19 October 2014 he scoreds his first goal in Serie A encounter at home against Sampdoria ended 2-2, turning the penalty that has reopened the game, until then conducted by Ligurian 2-0. A week later realizes, however, his first two goals in the Italian top flight (the first goal on free kick, the second even a penalty) in the 4-0 with which the Rossoblu impose themselves on the field of Empoli.
Torino
On 17 June 2015 Torino released a statement confirming they had signed Avelar to a four-year contract for an undisclosed fee and an option on Antonio Barreca. Naturally left-footed, he plays mainly on the left wing in a defensive role or side midfielder, given his offensive skills.
