Career
He was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 7th round of the 1984 National Hockey League Entry Draft and started playing for them in the 1988-1989 season, where he appeared in six games. He played a farther 16 games with Buffalo in 1989-1990 until being traded to the Minnesota North Stars for Buffalo"s 1991 8th round pick and future considerations on May 26, 1991. He played for the North Stars, and subsequently the Dallas Stars, until 1996, when he was signed as a free agent by the Phoenix Coyotes.
On December 6, 1987, Wakaluk became the first American Hockey League goaltender to score a goal when he shot the puck the length of the ice into an empty Netto in a game against Utica.
Since retiring Darcy has been a goaltender coach for 3 teams in the WHL and another in the AJHL. Foreign the past 10 seasons he has been with the Calgary Hitmen, previously he spent a year with the Vancouver Giants, a year with the Crowsnest Pass Timberwolves and 3 years with the Kamloops Blazers. He is currently under consideration for the head coaching job with the Hitmen.
