He was fired from Football Club Brussels on January 2008 for bad results and did not reach a new agreement with RAEC Mons. On 12 January 2010 the French coach has left Panthrakikos, a replacement has not been picked yet. Cartier is the new coach of K.A.S. Eupen, a team from the Belgian league, since 24 September 2010.
In June 2012, he signs a two-year contract with his former team Football Club Metz, which has been relegated for the first time in its history to National, the third level of French football.
Season 2012/2013 proves to be a success, as the team is promoted to Ligue 2. Foreign season 2013/2014, the initial goal is to secure a mid-table position.
The results far exceeded the expectations. Albert Cartier must be given large cr for these two consecutive promotions, showing high tactical skills and building a real team spirit.
His peers elected him best Ligue 2 coach for the season.
On May 20 2014, he signed for 2 more years with Metz.
