Aleksey Antropov showed an early interest in drawing. In 1739, he was assigned to study in the Office of the buildings, where he took lessons from Russian painter Matveev.
In 1752, Aleksey Antropov was sent to Kiev to perform paintings in the Church of Andrew Rastrelli, which was built according to the project of Count Rastrelli, and as an image for the iconostasis, so the dome and walls were written by him without any help.
He manages to finish the work in four years (1752-1756). Then Antropov came from Kiev to Moscow and there performed two plafonds a month in the Golovinsky Palace, where the Empress lived. He earned a reputation as a skilled master in painting. In the portraits Alexey Petrovich Antropov followed the manner of a Rotary. Portrait of the Georgian king Teymuraz Nikolaevich made Antropov a good reputation in St. Petersburg, where he was willing to handle the orders of the then Petersburg nobility.
Having earned fame, Antropov was invited by Shuvalov in Moscow to serve at the University, which was supposed to first establish and the Academy of Arts, but since it did not take place, on the recommendation of Shuvalov, Antropov was determined in 1761 in the Synod of the painter, whose duties lay the observation of copyists icons.
To the coronation of Catherine II, Antropov was sent to Moscow to help Jean Develi in writing episodes of coronation. Then he painted a portrait of the Empress in a white full-length dress, with regalia, porphyry and a crown. The original remains in the Synod among the eight works of Antropov, who until the end of his days taught students and wrote images for offerings to the Empress and portraits.
