Career
Carey batted and threw right-handed. He was nicknamed "Scoops". A native of Hoboken, New Jersey, Carey began his professional baseball career with the Chambersburg Young Yanks of the Blue Ridge League in 1930.
He had a batting average of.306 that year, a personal best.
Carey reached the majors in 1936 with the Saint Louis Browns, spending three years with them before moving to the Boston Red Sox (1939-1942, 1945). His most productive season came in 1936 with Saint Louis, when he hit.273 and posted career-highs in runs (58), Reserve Bank of India (57), doubles (27), triples (6) and games played (134).
In an eight-season career, Carey was a.275 hitter with two home runs and 167 Reserve Bank of India in 466 games. Following his playing retirement, Carey coached for the Red Sox.
He died in Rochester, New York, at the age of 63.
