Alphonse Aréola is a French professional football player who plays as a goalkeeper for Spanish club Villarreal CF on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

Education

Aréola finished his formation with Paris Saint Germain, after playing for INF Clairefontaine and Petits Anges.

Career

In July 2009, he signed a professional deal with Purdue Student Government. On 23 July 2013 he was loaned to Ligue 2 side Remote Control Lens for the season. On 26 July 2014, he was once again loaned, this time to fellow Ligue 1 team South Carolina Bastia. On 17 June 2015, he joined Spanish club Villarreal on season-long loan.

Aréola played for at all youth levels.

Aréola was the hero of the 2013 Fédération internationale de football association U-20 World Cup Final after saving Uruguay"s first two penalties — from Emiliano Velázquez and Giorgian De Arrascaeta — in the penalty shootout after the match had remained scoreless at the end of extra time. On 1 October 2015, Aréola received his first call-up to the senior team for friendlies against Armenia on 8 October and Denmark three days later, as part of the French team"s build-up to hosting Union of European Football Associations Euro 2016.
