He finished off his career with spells at Falkirk, Alloa Athletic and Arbroath. After retiring as a player, he became the assistant manager at his final club, Arbroath.

He began his career at junior club Muirkirk, before moving into the senior game with Partick Thistle before becoming a legend at Greenock Morton.He won 3 first division winners medals with Morton,1977-1978,1983-1984 and 1986-1987.In May 1987,after being voted the Scottish PFA 1st division football player of the year,he captained the Scottish semi-professionals in an end of season tournament against Holland,England & Italy.
