He debuted as a film director with the Tamil feature film Porkkalam, which was released on 14 January 2010. Porkkalam has a twist when the hero is revealed as blind man at the half way point of the movie. Critic Baradwaj Rangan mentioned Porkkalam as the best film of the year 2010 in an article of Indian Express and he applauded Bandi Saroj Kumar’s film-making style.
Bandi Saroj Kumar was born on 13 November 1984 in Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, India.
His love of cinema started when he was seven years old. After completing his film degree he made a short film in 2004 and approached his inspiration Ram Gopal Varma who encouraged him to become a film maker.
With his short film & Porkkalam’s script in hand, the first official announcement with Saroj Kumar as director has been made in Andhra Pradesh media in 2007. This was supposed to be Porkkalam in Telugu with actor Gopichand under the banner Sri Lakshmi Narashimha Productions, in association with Suresh Productions.
Bandi Saroj Kumar shot his second film Asthamanam, under the production house Char Production.
Asthamanam was released on 6 April 2012. Asthamanam is a 90-minute thriller, which was the first one and half hour movie in Tamil cinema. lieutenant didn"t work commercially, but extended his name as a film maker.
Bandi Saroj Kumar filmed a 15min Telugu short film named "Krishna Murthy Institute of Technology and Engineering Indiana THE OLD CITY", which was released on YouTube in December 2014.
