In 1982 Liselotte Højgaard received a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University Copenhagen and a Doctor of Medical Science degree in 1991.
From 1982 to 1994 Liselotte Højgaard served as a physician in gastroenterology, clinical physiology at Copenhagen hospitals. From 1994 to 1998 she was a head of department clinical physiology and nuclear medicine at Hvidovre Hospital. From 1998 to 2000 Liselotte worked as a chief physician at Rigshospitalet.
She was an editor in chief of the Danish Medical Journal from 1996 to 2002. Since 2004 she has been a professor in medical technology at the University of Copenhagen. She was a member and chair of the Vancouver Group, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
Liselotte Højgaard is a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences & Letters.
On May 20, 1956 Liselotte Højgaard married Jes Bruun Lauritzen. They have a son, Frederik.
