Bourdieu has contributed significantly to the sociology of culture and education. Through his empirical work on art. literature, power and intellectuals he constructs a theory of practice that constitutes an analysis of the practical intelligibility governing action with a perspective on how the structure of social phenomena determines and is itself perpetuated by action. His sociological methodology is relevant to philosophical questions through his critical studies of the role of philosophy in specific social spheres.
Bourdieu draws philosophy back into a debate about the social ground and impact of any philosophical construction.
