Trieste Publishing has a massive catalogue of classic book titles. Our aim is to provide readers with the highest quality reproductions of fiction and non-fiction literature that has stood the test of time. The many thousands of books in our collection have been sourced from libraries and private collections around the world. The titles that Trieste Publishing has chosen to be part of the collection have been scanned to simulate the original. It is highly unlikely that this would occur with one of our books. Our extensive quality control ensures that the readers of Trieste Publishing's books will be delighted with their purchase. Our staff has thoroughly reviewed every page of all the books in the collection, repairing, or if necessary, rejecting titles that are not of the highest quality. This process ensures that the reader of one of Trieste Publishing's titles receives a volume that faithfully reproduces the original, and to the maximum degree possible, gives them the experience of owning the original work.We pride ourselves on not only creating a pathway to an extensive reservoir of books of the finest quality, but also providing value to every one of our readers. Generally, Trieste books are purchased singly - on demand, however they may also be purchased in bulk. (This book was originally published prior to 1923, and rep...)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.

Holger Henrik Herholdt Drachmann was a Danish poet and dramatist.
Background
Holger Drachmann was born on 8 October 1846. He was the son of Dr A. G. Drachmann, a physician of Copenhagen. His family was of German extraction.
Owing to the early death of his mother, who was a Dane, he was left much to his own devices.
Education
Holger Drachmann did not enter the university until 1865, leaving it in 1866 to become a student in the Academy of Fine Arts. Behind in his studies, he did not enter university until 1865, leaving it in 1866 to become a student at the Academy of Fine Arts.
Career
From 1866 to 1870 Holger Drachmann was learning, under Professor Sorensen, to become a marine painter, and not without success. He began his career as a painter of marine pictures, visited England, saw the misery of the slums.
But about the latter date he came under the influence of Georg Brandes, and, without abandoning art, he began to give himself more and more to literature.
He nowissued his earliest volume of poems, Digte in 1872, and joined the group of young Radical writers, who gathered under the banner of Brandes.
Drachmann was unsettled, and still doubted whether his real strength lay in the pencil or in the pen.
His volume of lyrics "Muffled Melodies"(1875) proved that Drachmann was a poet with a real vocation, and he began to produce books in prose and verse with great rapidity.
"Young Blood" (1876) contained three realistic stories of contemporary life.
But he returned to his true field in his magnificent " Songs of the Sea; Venice" (1877) and won the passionate admiration of his countrymen by his prose work, called "Over the Frontier there"(1877), a series of impressions made on Drachmann by a visit to the scenes of the war with Germany.
In 1879 he published "Tendrils and Roses", amatory lyrics in which he showed a great advance in technical art.
To the same period belongs " On the Faith and Honour of a Sailor"(1878), a volume of short stories in prose.
In 1882 Drachmann published his fine translation, or paraphrase, of Byron's Don Juan.
In 1885 his romantic play called " Once upon a Time " had a great success on the boards of the Royal theatre in Copenhagen. His tragedies of "Wayland the Smith " and "Brav-Karl" (1897) made him the most popular playwright of Denmark.
He published in 1894 a volume of exquisitely fantastic Melodramas in rhymed verse, a collection which contains some of Drachmann's most perfect work.
" With a Broad Brush" (1887) was followed in 1890 by Forskrevet.
With this novel is closely connected "The Sacred Fire, " (1899), in which Drachmann speaks in his own person.
In Bornholm, Holger Drachmann met his first wife Vilhelmine Erichsen, whom Holger married in 1871 in Gentofte. Later he met with a young girl in Hamburg by the name of Emmy. They fell in love and got married. In 1887 she became seriously ill, and one of their daughters died the same year. Perhaps suffering from stress, he fled into a relation with Amanda Nielsen, whom he called Edith, who became his biggest muse.
