Under the mentorship of the Champlain High School principal, a Hobart alumnus, he attended Hobart College where he obtained a Bachelor of Surgery in Mathematics and Chemistry in 1944. He left the Army in 1948 to pursue his Doctor of Philosophy in Physical Chemistry at Brown University.
