Background

Gyokumei Ota was born in 1871 in Oshi, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. He was brother-in-law to Katai Tayama, novelist.

Education

He graduated from Tokyo Semmon Gakko (predecessor of Waseda University).

Career

At one time he was a reporter of the Kabuki Shimpo, a stage newspaper. In his late years, he was the resident priest of the Kampukuji Temple at Hanyu, Saitama Prefecture.
