In 1938 Makarova finished the dramatic studio of Belarusian theatre named after Yanka Kupala (later National Academic Theatre named after Yanka Kupala) where she worked after graduation.

Galina Makarova worked there all her life. She played a great number of parts in the theatre; many of them were women from common folk. Galina Makarova also played in many films. Spectators remember her for such films as “Ivan”, “Farewell of Slav girl”, “Young wife”, “Girls, don’t marry anybody”, “White clothes”, “White dews” and others. The last film work of Makarova was the part of the grandmother Shumilka in the comedy film “Pustelga” by Sergey Rusakov.
