Angela Gossow is a vocalist of the swedish metal-band Arch Enemy.
Background
Angela Gossow was born to the family of Orthodox Christians in Cologne, Germany. She has 3 siblings. She had bright and peaceful childhood climbing the trees and skateboarding with friends. Some people in her company of friends had musical instruments; they often gathered together and talked about life and music. When Angela was 13, her parents parted but she helped them to return the balance in relationship. But still her parents got divorced when she was 17 years old. Further troubles, including financial, came in when their business went bankrupt.
Career
Angela suffered anorexia and bulimia. She struggled with her illness and recovered some time later. It was at this time when she decided to move and join the metal band Asmodina. After graduation she joined an advertising company as a trainee, specializing in marketing. At the same time she began to study economics at the University of Cologne. She never stopped singing in Asmodina all these years . In 1997 Asmodina split and Gossow formed another band: the Mistress. Then she began to write for an online music magazine, covering the rock & metal sector and met the Arch Enemy for an interview on their Burning Bridges tour in 1999 in Bochum, Germany. After releasing 3 demos, Angela left the band to join the Arch Enemy in 2001, which was formed by a guitarist Michael Amott after his departure from the now legendary the Carcass.
Angela quit her job and studies just to be a full-time musician.
She rehearsed and toured much with the Arch Enemy. Once she lost her voice completely before their first Japan tour. She got diagnosed with nodules. After that time she learned right technique for singing and returned to the stage.
Despite the busy touring schedule, Angela Gossow finds the time to develop herself and grow as a singer. She is taking private singing and piano lessons and has recently started to work together with acclaimed vocal coach Melissa Cross in New York. She has had professional vocal coaching since 2002 after she encountered some vocal problems. Angela is featured in Melissa Cross’s 2nd DVD “The Zen Of Screaming II”.
