Rowe attended the Abbotsleigh School for Girls on the upper North Shore of Sydney. She graduated from the University of Sydney with a Master of Arts degree in English Literature in 1973.
Rowe began her career as an assistant editor at Paul Hamlyn publishing. Then she worked as an editor, senior editor, managing director, deputy publisher and publisher at Angus and Robertson Publishers for fourteen years.
She began writing children's books under the pseudonym Emily Rodda, her grandmother's name. Rowe wrote such books under this pseudonym as the series "Deltora Quest", "Teen Power Inc.", "Fairy Realm", "Star of Deltora", "Rowan of Rin" and others.
Jennifer`s first book "Something Special" was published in 1984. It marked the beginning of a career that has seen her become one of the most successful, prolific and versatile writers in Australia. She has written or co-authored over fifty books for children, and as Jennifer Rowe, her real name, she writes popular mystery novels for adults, including the series "Verity Birdwood", "Tessa Vance" and "Angela's Mandrake & Other Feisty Fables".
Rowe continued her career in publishing from 1989 to 1992, then as Editor of the Australian Women's Weekly, while writing novels in her free time. She has been a full-time writer since 1994. Also in 1990, she wrote science fiction novel "Finders Keepers" which was made into a television series called "The Finder". Her most recent books are the Star of Deltora series, which focuses on a girl, Britta, who wants to be a trader like her father and sail the nine seas.
Rowe is known for her children's fantasy series "Deltora Quest", "Rowan of Rin", "Fairy Realm", "Teen Power Inc.", the "Rondo" trilogy, "The Three Doors" trilogy, and "Star of Deltora".
Rowe`s children's work the Deltora Quest series has been published in Australia, New Zealand, the United States, Canada, Japan, Italy, Brazil, China, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Indonesia, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Total worldwide sales across all the Deltora Quest series have now exceeded 15 million.
