Career
After twenty-five years of ice skating, Jo Carter is Australia's top female figure skater. She is also a qualified physio, though her demanding training schedule means she doesn't get much time to practice her physio skills.
Jo competes in a skating discipline called single freestyle. Her programs are composed of several jumps and spins, and must last between one, and four and a half minutes. Jo has finished in the top 13 places at the 1998 Winter Olympics, and the 1998 and 1999 World Championships. Excellent work - as ice is hard to find here in Australia.
Jo has to make sure she stays in shape for the heavy training she goes through twice a day. She also has to keep her skates in good shape too. A pair of blades can cost around $900, and a pair of boots can cost the same. Jo has to make sure her blades are dry after any ice skating, or the blades go rusty. She has to polish her boots regularly so that they repel water, and she always keeps a spare pair of laces in her bag. A little problem - like a broken boot lace - can be a very big handicap.
Living with Jo and her Mum is their dog, Rocky - a ten year old Jack Russell. Jack Russells are very brave, but fun loving and extremely loyal. Rocky goes walking with Jo's Mum, and after a hard day exploring, and running about.he gets lots of cuddles from Jo.
