Ahmet Sezer began his professional career with a post of the assistant judge in Ankara, but soon he was drafted into the military service where he served in division at the Academy of land armed forces. Ahmet Sezer's further destiny is closely connected with his profession; after the army he was a judge in small town Dicle, then he became a member of the investigating team of the Court of Cassation of Turkey. In 1977-1978 graduated from the post-graduate studies of the Ankara University Faculty of Law and received a degree of the Master of Civil Law. On March 7, 1983 he was elected as a member of judicial committee to the High Court of Appeals of Turkey.
On September 27, 1988 the president of Turkey Evren (who made a military takeover in 1980) appointed Ahmet Sezer the judge of the Constitutional court, which a promising lawyer headed in incomplete 10 years (January, 1998).
On May 5, 2000 the Grand National Assembly (the parliament) of Turkey elected Ahmet Necdet Sezer as the tenth president of the Republic of Turkey.
The president is a staunch supporter of the unitary system of Turkey and he opposes Kurd separatism.
