Sonu Nigam, an Indian singer with melodious voice has been consistently singing since 1985 to entertain people of India as well as outside the national geographical boundaries. He is a multi-talented personality with experience in many fields apart from singing such as actor, radio jockey, television presenter and music director.
Background
He was born in Faridabad, Haryana state. His family hails from a merchant family. His Father Agam Kumar Nigam and Mother Shobha Nigam have supported him always with his dream to become a singer. His father too has been famous singer of his times and in past has given many hit albums namely ‘Bewafaai’, ‘Phir Bewafaai’ and many more.
Few years back the singer changed his surname spelling from ‘Nigam’ to ‘Niigaam’ for numerological reasons. He did use the changed spelling for sometime but then later returned back to his original family surname spelling ‘Nigam’. This implies his extreme attachment with his family

Sonu Nigam studied at the Faculty of Instrumentation & Control Engineering, but he did not finish his education. In all academics programs he stood on top position.
Career
Sonu performed on stage for the very first time at the age of three and a half when he joined his father on stage to sing Late Mohammed Rafi's popular song "Kya Hua Tera Vaada" from the film Hum Kisise Kam Nahin. Then on, he accompanied his father for his various singing assignments. He worked as a child artist for several movies like Pyaara Dushman, Kaamchor and Betaab. Later, at about the age of nineteen years, Sonu and his father went to Mumbai, where the boy wanted to start his musical career. He participated in several music competitions and won them all. During one of these competitions he was judged by the renowned music director of Bollywood, Anu Malik who pronounced him the winner and also gave a word of encouragement to work towards being a playback singer in Bollywood. His initial years in Mumbai proved to be a struggle, and he started by singing covers of Mohammad Rafi songs, mainly for the "Rafi Ki Yaadein" album series. These albums contributed to his label for some time as a "Rafi clone." Then he began acting in commercials on the radio. Later he took part in the popular TV show. He got a break as a playback singer in Gulshan Kumar's movie, "Aaja Meri Jaan". He then sang the song, "Accha Sila Diya", for the album, "Bewafa Sanam" (1995), which went on to become a hit and gave him the recognition as an established playback singer!
