Background
As the only child of a stylist father and a mother who produced runway exhibitions, French actor Gaspard Ulliel came of age in the shadow of the Parisian fashion world. Ulliel undertook an early foray into drama, when an adult friend of the family sought to establish an agency for child actors and -- impressed by Ulliel's visage and natural ability -- asked the then 11-year-old actor to join. Ulliel agreed and debuted with roles in numerous French telemovies.
He has a scar on his left cheek as a result of an attack from a doberman at the age of six. He says it increases his emotional acting abilities because it looks like a dimple.
He began acting while he was still at school, appearing in Une Femme En Blanc, a film for French television.
In 2007, he appeared on the cover of the January issue of French Vogue with Dutch supermodel Doutzen Kroes.
Gaspard Ulliel will play Yves Saint Laurent in a forthcoming biopic of the late designer's early career.
