Eugene WASON, British Captain.

Background

WASON, Eugene was born on January 26, 1846. Son of Rigby Wason, Member of Parliament, Ipswich.

Education

Rugby; Wadham College Oxford (Bachelor of Arts 186S, Master of Arts 1870).

Career

Formerly Lieut, in the Rugby School Rifle Corps and 8th Ayrshire Rifle Volunteers. I rowed in Trial Eights Oxford, 1865 and 1866. Captain of Wadham College Boat Club, and winner of the University foils, 1868.

Called I to the Bar, 1870, and went Northern Circuit. Disbarred, 1872.

Admitted solicitor, 1876, and from that date until 1885 a partner in the Arm j of Williams, James, & Wason. Assistant Examiner to Incorporated Law Society in Common Law, 1878-S2.

Member of Parliament South Ayrshire, 1885-1886, 95. Has twice gone round the world, in 87 by India, China, Japan, San Francisco, and America, and in 1896-1897 by Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Hawaii, Vancouver, and Canada. J is a Past Master of the University Lodge, and a Justice of the Peace for the County of Ayr. PC. 1907; M. P. Liberal Clackmannan and Kinross since 1899.

  • Formerly football, shooting, rowing, and fishing. Now reading, travelling, bridge, backgammon, and picquet.
