1911-1915 studied at Stroganov Arts College.
From 1915 set designer with private film studios and State Skobelev Coml film enterprises. After 1917 October Revol helped organize Soviet film industry. 1918-1924 director, then production manager, State Film Studio.
1919 took part in first experimental production of State Film Studio School - screening excerpts from Jack London’s novel “The Iron Heel”. 1924 set designer, films Iz iskry plamya (Fire from the Spark) and Erasnyy tyl (Red Home Front). From 1925 worked as film director.
His first film was Moroka (Fuss), produced in conjunction with Yu. Tarich; in late 1920’s produced films: Mabul (1927, after Sholom-Aleykhem’s novelette ’’Bloody Stream”). Yad (Poison) (1927); Gerqidomny (Heroes of the Blast-Furnace) (1929).
Iuda (Judas) (1930); from 1938 with Ashkhabad Film Studio (now Turkm Film Studio). From 1945 artistic director of this studio. Helped develop Turkm film industry and produced films: Dursun (1940) and Prokuror (Public Prosecutor) (1941).
1948 directed lyric comedy Dalyokaya nevesta (Distant Bride). 1956 at Odessa Film Studio produced comedy Sharp lyubinoy (Scarf of the Beloved) 1958 at Turkm Film Studio helped direct adventure film Osoboye porucheniye (Special Mission).
