Expelled from naval college for revol activities on board training ship. 1917 first work printed. Active in 1918-1922 Turkish nalliberation movement.
1921-1928 lived in Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. From 1928 helped publish progressive journal Resimli ay: arrested for Communist activities and spent 17 years in Turkish prisons. 1937 sentenced to 28 years’ imprisonment.
1950 released; 1951 moved to Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics. Introduced free verse to Turkish poetry.
