From 1921 pianist-concertmaster, from 1922 conductor, Tbilisi Opera Theater, where he conducted Borodin’s Knyaz' Igor’ (Prince Igor) and Pototskiy’s Proryv (The Breach) (1930-1931). 1931 made debut at Bolshoy Theater with “Aida”. 1931-1953 conductor, 1953-1962 chief conductor, Bolshoy Theater.
