Eduard PEKARSKIY, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Linguist and ethnographer. Honorary member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences from 1931.

Background

PEKARSKIY, Eduard was born on October 25, 1858. Son of a nobleman.

Education

Studied at Khar’kov Veterinary Institute, from which he was expelled in 1881 for participation in Populist movement.

Career

1881 — 1905 lived in Yakutsk Province, collecting folklore material and studying Yakut language. 1894-1896 and 1903 took part in Sibiryak and Nel’kano-Ayan expeditions, collecting ethnographic and economics material among the Ayan Tungus (Evenki). Later secretary, Ethnography Department, Russian Geographical Social.

Contributed to journal “Zhivaya starina”. From 1927 correspondent member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences, compiled “Slovar’ yakutskogo yazyka” (Dictionary of the Yakut Language).

Religion

All religious orders impose irrational rules of good and bad behaviour.

Honorary member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Academy of Sciences from 1931.
