1911 worked for Russian Organization(s) Commission. 1917 at 6th (Prague) All-Russian Russian Social-Democratic Workers’ Party Conference elected member, Central Committee, Russian Social-Democratic Workers ’Party (Bolsheviks). Frequently arrested and imprisoned for revol activities.

1927-1938 chairman, Central Committee, International Organization(s) for Aid to Revol Fighters and deputy chairman of its Executive Committee. 1930-1934 member and Party Collegium member, All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) Ccntr Control Commission. 1935-1943 member, International Control Commission.
1932 at Amsterdam Anti-War Congress elected member, World Anti-War and Anti-Fascist Committee. 1934 helped found World Anti-War and Anti-Fascist Women's Committee. 1938-1946 ed, journal “International Literature” (in French and English).
From 1946 engaged in soc and lit work. Member, All-Russian Central Executive Committee of several convocations. From 1935 member, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Central Executive Committee.
