1943 commander, 68th Army on Northwestern Front. Participated in abortive operation to rout German forces in Dem’yansk region. May—20 October 1943 commander, Southern Front.
Directed liberation of Donets Basin. 20 October 1943—May 1944 commander, 4lh Ukraine Front. Played an important role in liberation of the Crimea.
May 1944 until end of war commander, 3rd Ukraine Front. August 1944 his troops joined with forces of 2nd Ukraine Front in major Yassy- Kishinev operation. Later his troops participated in the Budapest, Belgrade and Vienna operations.
1945-1946 supreme commander, Southern Forces Group stationed in Bulgaria and Rumania. 1946-1949 commander, Transcaucasian Military district. Deputy, USSR Supreme Soviet of 1946 convocation.
