1929-1930 on Franz-Josef-Land and Severnaya Zcmlya. 1932 with the Steamship “Sibiryakov” made first non-stop traverse of the Northern Sea Route. 1933-1934 took part in “Chelyuskin” expedition.
1934-1938 captain, icebreaker “Yermak". Late 1938 with icebreaker “I. Stalin” made a trip to high Arctic latitudes to rescue the drifting “G. Sedov”. During World War 2 captain, icebreaker “I. Stalin”.
1946-1947 commanded Antarctic Whaling Flotilla. From 1947 again captain, icebreaker “I. Stalin”. Deputy, Union of the Soviet Socialist Republics Supreme Soviet of 2nd convocation.
An island in the Kara Sea is named for him.
