Founded United Ireland, 1880. Prosecuted nine times for political offences. Spent more than two years in prison.
Elected to Parliament for native town as a Nationalist, 1883. S. Division Tvrone, 18S5-86: North-east Division Cork, 1887-1892. Member of Parliament (Nationalist) Cork City and North-east Division Cork Company, 1892.
Retired from Parliament, 1895, under circumstances caused by internal dissensions in Irish Party. Again Member of Parliament Cork City, 1900-1909. In 189S founded a new agrarian movement, the “ United Irish 1518 League,” and started the Irish People newspaper as its advocate. Journalist; Member of Parliament (Nationalist) Cork City since 1910.
