Brother of Louis Auguste Blanqui the revolutionist, with whom he is sometimes confused. He was an inspiring lecturer and diligent researcher whose studies involved him in extensive travel throughout Europe. His chief concern was with labour economics, but his work on the history of economics enjoyed international acclaim and remained useful for many years, particularly for its treatment of ancient and medieval economic thought.
He was Say’s successor at the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers.
