Finlay has worked previously as a designer and an internationally published cartoonist, but is now devoting himself to writing. His debut novel, Vernon God Little (2003), - a dark satire set in the aftermath of a Texas high school massacre - was the winner of the 2003 Man Booker Prize for Fiction. It is currently being adapted for the stage.
His second novel, Ludmila's Broken English, was published in 2006.
Meanwhile the author escapes from publicity to remote Irish village where he is currently working on a novel, a collection of short allegories, and a non-fiction book on writing in between of traveling to the literature events worldwide
