Educated at Atar Junior School near Malakal, then at Rumbek Second¬ary School before going to Khartoum University for social studies and economics.
Graduating in 1964, he joined the Bank of Sudan in Khartoum. After the May 1965 revolution he became an advisor in economic planning at the Ministry of Southern Affairs. He was a member of the Popular Commission for the National Charter.
He re-emerged in July 1971 as assistant director of projects at the Ministry of Southern Affairs. On October 14, 1971, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Southern Affairs. After the Addis Ababa agreement of February 1972 ending the 17-year war in the South he was put in charge of the day-to-day administration of the Relief and Rehabilitation Fund.
Economic planning expert from the Upper Nile Province who has spent much of his time on projects for raising living standards in the South. As an advisor to Southern Affairs Ministers he has been responsible for many of the improvements and new ideas introduced into the much-neglected regions.
