Jackson was a Senior Project Officer for the Thai National Curriculum and Materials with the Australian Capital Territory Schools Authority. He is currently a Professor of Thai history in the School of Culture, History and Language, at the Australian National University. His current book project is titled Queer Sex and Identity in Thai History.
He currently holds an Australian Research Council Discovery Grant for the project “Critical Thought in Thailand After Marxism” and is consultant for the “Cultural Pluralism and Sexual Diversity in Thailand” project at the Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Anthropology Centre in Bangkok.
