Educated by governess, private tutor and at gymnasium at Berdjansk. Father political exile from Russia, came to the United States with family, 1873.
Went to Nebraska when it was frontier. Started one of the first sheep-farms on large scale, handling from 10,000 to 20,000 a year to date. Took active part in development of state.
Organized several banks.
Public and private schools. Studied law in office of Judge George East. Wait, Geneseo, Illinois.
Married Mary Josephine Shaw, of Geneseo, April 15, 1885. Admitted to Minnesota bar, 1883, and practiced in Duluth.
Special judge Municipal Court, Duluth, 1887-1889.
Democratic candidate for judge, 11th Judicial District, Minnesota, 1896 (defeated). Foreign Congress, 8th Minnesota District, 1910 (defeated). Delegate to Democratic National Convention, Baltimore, 1912, and seconded nomination of Woodrow Wilson for president of the United States, for State of Minnesota.
