Mr. Mandel was born on June 7, 1957, in New York, United States. He is a son of Paul William (an author and associate editor of Life magazine) and Sheila (a writer and staff member of Life magazine; maiden name, Emslie) Mandel.
Peter Mandel received his Bachelor of Arts from Middlebury College in 1979 and Master of Arts degree from Brown University in 1981.
Mr. Mandel was an editorial associate at Brown Alumni Monthly, Providence, from 1983 to 1985. Between 1985 and 1987 he was appointed editor and staff writer for Antioch Public Company, Yellow Springs, Ohio. He worked as an assistant to the president of Bryant College, Smithfield, Rhode Island, 1987-1990.
From 1990 till 1996 Mr. Mandel served as a freelance writer in Paris and Providence. Since 1996 he occupied the post of a columnist for Providence Journal-Bulletin. He has been a contributor to Reader’s Digest, Cosmopolitan, Cats Magazine, Harper’s, and Yankee Magazine. Former sports and book review editor, Brown Alumni Monthly magazine, Brown University.
