Peter Pollack was born on March 21, 1909, in Wing, North Dakota, United States.
Peter Pollack studied at the University of Illinois in Chicago and at the Institute of Design in Chicago.
From 1962 until the time of his death Peter Pollack was employed as an honorary curator of photography at the Worcester Art Museum in Massachusetts. He also was a lecturer on photography at the University of Southern Florida and the Fort Lauderdale Museum in 1970-1971, as well as a visiting scholar in photography at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York, in 1969.
Prior to that, Peter Pollack had been director of the American Federation of Arts from 1962 to 1965, director of the World of Ancient Gold Exhibition at the New York World's Fair in 1965, an art consultant for the Guggenheim Museum in New York City, 1959-1963, a curator of photography at the Art Institute of Chicago, 1945-1957, and director of the Southside Community Art Center in Chicago, 1939-1942.
