Peter Alekseevich Nikitin graduated from Secondary Vocational School (Moscow, 1909). He studied at Voronezh Agricultural Institute, Agronomic Faculty (1923-1926).
Since 1911 Peter Alekseevich Nikitin lived in Voronezh and worked as lab assistant, teacher at secondary vocational establishment (1911-1917), teacher at the higher courses for women (1917-1919), teacher at the Voronezh Agricultural Institute and the Botanical experiment station (1919-1923). In 1929-1933 Nikitin was assistant at botany department of the Voronezh Agricultural Institute, in 1934-1939 - professor and head of the Department for systematics higher plants at Tomsk State University. Since 1939 he lived in Novosibirsk, where he continued his research on paleobotany.
