Murthy earned his BS from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad. Upon graduating in 1987, he began his career in Sales and Marketing with Sonata Software, Ltd., where he gained invaluable experience in the IT sector leading up to the birth of the internet.
In 1992, Phaneesh Murthy began working for the Indian tech firm Infosys. As Global Head of Sales, he pioneered his first major disruption by developing the Global Delivery Model (GDM), which became an industry standard. This initiated a hyper-growth phase at Infosys, skyrocketing revenues from $2M to over $750M in under a decade.
Phaneesh Murthy left Infosys in 2002 to take the role of CEO at iGATE, a struggling IT company operating at a loss. During his tenure, Murthy restructured the company from the ground up and boosted revenues from nearly zero to $1.2 billion in 2013.
In the same year, Murthy founded Primentor, Inc., a consulting agency that provides expertise in the areas of IT, business strategies, and restructuring. As CEO, he mentors senior executives of large organizations, helping them overcome stagnant thinking and catalyze growth. With Primentor, Murthy has been the thought leader behind some of the most notable success stories in global business. His clients have included a Silicon Valley tech company, a major UK-based bank, and a leading US insurance firm.
Phaneesh Murthy considers philanthropy to be an important part of his career. For over 25 years, he has dedicated resources to Tiger conservation in India.
