Phil Hindin's career is rather varied. He worked as a writer, manager, agent, and producer of vaudeville variety shows. West End shows created with his participation include The Merry Widow and The Sunshine Boys. Hindin worked with dance companies, including the Ciocolia National Rumanian Dance Company and Orchestra. During World War II he served in British Army in Royal Indian Artillery where he achieved a rank of captain receiving the Order of Merit Badge.
Phil Hindin is known as an author of revues, including Hello from S.E.A.C., which toured England in 1947-1951, and Best Years of Your Lives, which toured England in 1947-1952. He created the 1964 television series Call My Bluff and wrote television sketches.
Phil Hindin is also known as a co-author of the book Roy Hudd’s Cavalcade of Variety Acts in which together with Roy Hudd they explored the post-war era when variety was no longer fashionable, television had arrived, and the book was a way of documenting some of the various performers. Hindin was in his eighties and had been in the profession as a writer, manager, agent, and producer since 1932, so Hudd considered his experience to be valid.
