He represented Cumberland County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1786 to 1793. The son of Henry Marchington, Yeoman. Philip was baptized on the 28 October 1736, by Doctor.James Clegg of Chinley Independent Chapel.
Being one of the first Independent Chapels in England.
He was a United Empire Loyalist from Pennsylvania who came to Halifax in 1784. Marchington was elected to the provincial assembly after Christopher Harper was unseated because he was not a resident of Nova Scotia.
He died in Halifax at the age of 72.
At one time a leader of the Methodist church in the province, he built a church on his property but, after a quarrel with other members of the congregation, he locked them out of the church.
