Philip Zaleski was born on September 29, 1948, in Waukegan, Illinois, United States. He is a son of Thaddeus and Jean (Busuttil) Zaleski.
Philip Zaleski studied at Wesleyan University where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1970.
Philip Zaleski started his career as an executive editor in Parabola Magazine in 1984. In 1985 he started to work as a senior editor and held this post until 2005. Zaleski also worked as a lecturer in English at Tufts University from 1985 to 1989. In 1989, he took up a post of a lecturer in religion at Smith College and held this post until 2000. He also served as a visiting lecturer at Wesleyan University from 1990 to 1997.
Philip Zaleski worked as a book reviewer for the Boston Phoenix and regularly wrote lengthy review essays on subjects as diverse as baseball, anthropology, and science fiction. He published his first book The Recollected Heart in 1995. He also was an editor of The Best Spiritual Writing books. Together with his wife, he wrote such books as Prayer: A History and The Book of Heaven. His recent book The Fellowship: The Literary Lives of The Inklings J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Owen Barfield, Charles Williams was published in 2015. Zaleski's essays and reviews on religion, culture, and the arts appear regularly in national periodicals including The New York Times, The Washington Post.
Philip Zaleski is an American writer and educator who is famous for his books on religion. His most famous works are The Book of Heaven, The Recollected Heart and The Fellowship. His books have received laudatory reviews in The New York Times Book Review, Time Magazine and The Los Angeles Times. Zaleski received the David McCord Essay Prize for his essay on Vladimir Nabokov's lepidoptery.
